Institutional Principles

Excellence and Perenniality

Excellence, so as to guarantee our students an education that equips them for professional success. Perpetuity, because the school's commitment to its students is to maintain an ever-increasing quality and reputation, ten, twenty, fifty years from now, in order to honor the diploma they will take away with them.

The moment a student chooses us, and we accept him, we make a lifelong commitment to him and his family. Because the student and his family entrust us not only with tuition money, which is already a lot. They also entrust us with four years of their lives.

And, as if all this were not enough, they entrust us with what is most valuable to them: the future of this boy or girl. While the adults, who have already graduated, place in us their hopes for a better life. It is hard to imagine another sector with such responsibility.

The obligation to train and prepare well is only the beginning of our commitment. Our former students will need ESPM not for the time they study, but for their entire professional life.

Thirty years from now they will need ESPM, their "Alma Mater", to be firm and strong, recognized and valued. Thirty years from now our former students have to be able to fill their chests, raise their heads and proudly say: "I graduated from ESPM".

That is our commitment. Excellence and Perpetuity. Pursuing excellence and ensuring perpetuity is the obligation of any school. Ours, especially, because we are not just any school, we are ESPM.

History

ESPM was born in 1951, when a group of advertising and media businessmen, led by Rodolfo Lima Martensen, supported by the then director of Masp, Pietro Maria Bardi and by the legendary Assis Chateaubriand, had the vision that only with a school of excellence would we have a strong, developed communication industry in Brazil.

It was from the greatness of this ideal of our founders that ESPM was created, by the market and for the market. The school in which, since always, "Teach who does".

Over the years, under the direction of Martensen, Hugo Scherb, Francisco Gracioso, Luiz Celso de Piratininga and José Roberto Whitaker Penteado, ESPM reached the present day with campuses in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre and Florianópolis, about 15,000 students and 600 teachers, 8 undergraduate courses, post-graduation, master's and doctoral degrees.

An Institution recognized by its competence, seriousness and tradition

xnac inst brasao espm heraldica 200x200 1

Conceived by the Brazilian Society of Heraldry and Humanistics in 2011 to celebrate ESPM's 60th anniversary, the Coat of Arms conveys the academic status achieved by ESPM in communication, marketing and management, due to its ability to prepare professionals with ethical and leadership posture, imbued with the responsibility to contribute to the development of society and companies in Brazil and abroad.

A vanguard school, pioneer and recognized as a national reference, ESPM is also an experienced organization like the other traditional international teaching institutions, a merit achieved thanks to its actions that go beyond the classroom.

ESPM Coat of Arms

A symbol that conveys the greatness of the institution

xnac inst heraldic blazon 200x200 1

At the top of the shield is the heraldic sun that represents glory, eternity, fame, truth and munificence. The red color symbolizes boldness, valor, bravery, courage, greatness of soul, and magnanimity. Its apparent rays, 16 in number, keep 8 of them with the gold enamel, metal of the Luso-Brazilian Armory that transmits faith, nobility, strength, wisdom, vigor, power, fidelity, power, circumstance, wealth, tolerance and firmness.

On the top of the Coat of Arms' body, we see the graphic characters of the ESPM mark over white enamel, indicative of hope, purity, eloquence, cleanliness, beauty, truth, frankness, and happiness.

In the lower vertical part, white, on the left, is inserted the image of a rooster, an abstract figure created by the Catalan publicist, writer and painter, Francesc Petit Reig. The rooster, symbol of communication, is the emblem of a brave, brave, and vigilant warrior.

In the red field, lower right, the figure of a human hand stands out. It is an original reproduction of the Cave of Hands, located in the National Historical Park in the city of Perito Moreno, Patagonia (Argentina), considered a Unesco World Heritage Site due to the richness of cave paintings made more than 10 thousand years ago. This human hand represents art in all its manifestations, emotions, passions, and forms, symbolizing: knowledge, ingenuity, and art.

In Luso-Brazilian Armory, it represents power Docet qui facit refers to the teaching philosophy implanted since its beginnings: Teach who does. The MCMLI sign designates the year 1951, when ESPM was founded.
